We are all Lepers now!

When I was a kid there was a Leper colony on Bentick Island just off of Victoria BC. When we passed near the island on Captain Beaumont's launch the Discovery ( Beaumont was a Brit with considerable resources who owned a different Island and was generous in his support of Anglican youth and Cubs and Scouts) we all swore we had seen men in white robes whose noses or arms had fallen off. God I wish I still had that kind of imagination.

In any event today it dawned on me, we are all Lepers. As much as we might long for contact, most of us know better. We distance aggressively, crossing the street, moving to the curb across the boulevard etc.

I suspect I am not alone in envying those who are out as couples, walking the dog or just chatting away.
