Aah and then there is AutoFill

Like many people I have on occasion said unkind things about AutoFill but I am slowly softening up. When I take time to proof my work AutoFill is very helpful. This said, in times of angst or stress to get things done it is the source of much annoyance.

For me the irony is that this AI driven system (Artificial Intelligence, at the risk of appearing snotty but I know both my readers) so well mimics the shortcomings of many people including me. AutoFill is like the friend who turns up at the funeral of someone close and says It is OK you will feel better in time. Well intended, but simply not helpful. That is what AutoFill does. It tries to fix things but it misses the point. I am not sure which is worse, realizing that your friend is out to lunch in this important moment or realizing you have just presented to all and sundry something that is at the very least stupid and at the worst, totally out of character because AutoFill is well meaning but not helpful.
