500 plus days

Somewhat more than 500 days ago I left Oaxaca with some ambivalence. Now I am back prepared to let that be water under the bridge. I am happy, relieved that most people wear masks, even on the street, and the vacination supply is growing. We are fifty days at ....SEMAFORO Verde as in green light, the desired state. Works for me.

The wash basin in my bathroom is a perfect metaphor for Mexico. The basin is in Talavera style, a pottery style brought from Spain and dating to the 16th century. The fixtures are industrial copper pipe with lever shut offs. (They work really well). This is Mexico. When I enter a government building I sign myself into a huge ledger in ink or pencil. I proceed to the task at hand and get sent away because my documents are not computer ready.

After repeated visits I finally get it straight and away I go. It is a strange and charming mix of the old and the new and I love it.
