When I was a lot younger...as in when I was a soprano, I was member of the Christ Church Cathedral boys choir. Mercifully, neither the Choir Master or the Clergymen were pedophiles so aside from the verbal abuse heaped on us because we were at times boisterous...ah that's were boys comes from.... we made out OK.
We were mercenaries, paid for our participation. If memory serves, five cents for a practice, ten cents for a service and at Christmas 2 bits from the Dean and 4 bits from the Archbishop. In a world of 3 jawbreakers for a penny that worked. We learned a lot and one of the things we learned was that the “Ghost walked on Friday”. According to our Oxford trained Choir Master, this was the English way of referring to payday.
Many years later, in the seventies, I learned from watching a pop video featuring a Business Prof from the University of Colorado that the American equivalent is, “ When the Eagle Shits”. Who new. I certainly never heard the expression in my years in Colorado but of course I was not in the Business school.
So whats the point! Well it is the end of the month and for many of us the Ghost has walked. Regrettably for many it hasn't. So this is my periodic unsolicited reminder that it is giving time. All the helpful charities are stressed. HELP THEM OUT!!!!
