My Plan...

I am starting to get it....mercifully the “it”, being how to manage in these times of maximal social isolation as opposed to the “it” being Covid-19. What I get is that we need special events even if access is limited. It is up to us to create them and the possibilities are huge. Yesterday for example I hatched on the notion of running the dishwasher. Under normal circumstances, I run it from time to time, taking advantage of peak billing. I push the start as I head off to bed.

The powers that be, quite wisely, given the lock up, have set aside time of day billing so it doesn't matter. No need to do laundry on the weekend or run the dishwasher in the dark hours. In passing, I would note that today, Sunday, still was wash the sheets day. Some habits are harder to break than others but I digress.

In any event at 2:08 yesterday after a late breakfast and leisurely reading about the world on my phone I hit the start button. What an experience! It was like having a baby and a cat in the house all at the same time. Possibly in the same box. There was cooing, snarling, clanging, whining, meowing, sloshing and a host of other chaotic sounds. Who knew.

Given the generally low grade affect associated with the shut down it was truly exciting. A pick up for the day. There was a booster later when I got to see all those nice clean dishes.

Tomorrow my special event will be to sit in the dormer window of the guest room and read. I haven't been in the room for a couple of weeks and there is a comfy window box where I can watch all the people walking by on their way to the supermarket.

It is good to plan ahead.

Yesterday I watched a film of "King Lear" sent from Stratford. I know the basic plot but have never read it. I shall have to read it now as my hearing deficiencies prevented from hearing all the dialogue. Fortunately I do possess a complete edition of the plays of Shakespeare. It is never too late to acquire an extra layer of culture. There will be another play from Stratford on our computers on Thursday. I am looking forward to it.
