Ice Storms...Argh!

I live in a pretty benign climatic Zone. We have snow but we have snow plows and given the availability of advanced warnings if you are lucky you can just hole up and take a snow day. We rarely get tornadoes, the last hurricane was in 1958 and we still remember “Hazel”. There is flooding up and down the river but I live on the top of the hill that Niagara falls slides over. If Noah lived here he would be doing Jigsaw puzzles. I am not sure if my Sump Pump has ever come on except for a test. We can of course have sewer backs ups,... bad, but we do have sewers..good! All this comes to mind as I read and see the coverage of the recent Ice storms in several parts of the US.
Previously I lived in a house that had three fireplaces, One gas and two wood burners. There was huge cistern full of water and a natural gas fired furnace. I got a little paranoid around Y2K and purchased a generator and wired the house for at least survival power. All good.
Now I am 100 hundred percent on the grid and can see myself being one of those people sleeping in the local arena if an ice storm hits. I have empathy.
