I Got Doves

Eons ago, like last march, when I was in quarantine my companion was a Morning Dove sitting on her nest outside my bedroom window. She seemed pretty isolated sitting there all day with no signs of attendant care. Freshly returned from Mexico and somewhat in shock over the way things were, I identified with her situation and we bonded. To be truthful the identification was weak, her circumstances were sparse, mine pretty cushy. I had a warm house, well stocked kitchen and friends ready to deliver anything I lacked.
Every morning as I drew the blinds open I was pleased to see her and was looking forward to the arrival of her brood. This ended abruptly when nature took it's course and a raccoon or skunk or some creature kicked her off the nest and kicked the eggs to the ground. I was pissed.
Now many months later I seem to have inherited a flock of Doves. Today's count was 11. They are all puffed up to protect themselves from the cold, and it is cold, but they are good company as we fumble about trying to organize vaccinations. I wonder if I will get another nest outside my window.
With a couple of extra feeders just outside the window we get to watch the humming birds argue over the nectar. It is very cool to witness the aerial acrobatics of these little guys!
