My quarantine ended Saturday so Easter Sunday, acting on the advice of friends I decided that I should order takeout to support restaurants that we hoped to have around when the lock down eases. Seemed reasonable and since my friend Dave had given a six out of five review to the Merchant Ale House in St Catharines I gave them a call. Nice people to say the least. I order a sandwich and a growler of IPA and was told it would be ready in thirty minutes. I must admit the Growler was part of the bait.
This is where the story starts to go nuts.
After fifteen minutes I go to my car and although it started easily on Wednesday, on Sunday it seemed to want the day off. More than somewhat embarrassed I called the |Merchant Ale house and explained I would be a no show. They were totally smooth. I then called CAA and since CoronoV isn't exactly creating demand for them they arrived promptly, started my car, checked the battery level and said take a drive.
My call to reorder at the Merchant was well received and off I went. When I arrived I was greeted by name...HI Ed..."Here is your meal, sorry the sandwich is a bit cold but the beer is OK". When I asked how much they said " its on us. you have had a bit of a day". Distracted by their generosity I took it and left. On my way home I was struck by how crazy this was. I start out to try and be helpful, not totally altruistic I will admit, and end up getting totally looked after. It is funny how thing go.
